LHC Launch Rescheduled
Scheme of LHC
Official launching date of Large Hadron Collider, most powerful particle accelerator ever created, is now October 21.
Russian physicist, head of heavy ion physics department of LHC, said that on the 21st of October a proton beam would pass through the whole ring. Russian scientists are involved in many LHC projects, including ALICE collaboration, which builds a dedicated heavy-ion detector to exploit the unique physics potential of nucleus-nucleus interactions at LHC energies.
Large Hadron Collider is a large international project, a particle accelerator complex intended to collide opposing beams of 14 TeV protons. Its main purpose is to explore the validity and limitations of the Standard Model, the current theoretical picture for particle physics.
